Russian planes pull in spotters

Russian aircraft at Manchester airport
About 600 advance bookings were made at the viewing park

Hundreds of plane-spotters have descended on Manchester airport to see the Russian jets bringing in fans for the Uefa Cup final.

The airport had 600 advance bookings for the viewing area car park by enthusiasts ahead of the game.

They arrived early to see the aircraft bringing in fans for the Glasgow Rangers and Zenit St Petersburg match at the City of Manchester stadium.

The Russian planes are seldom seen in the UK.

They include the Tupolev TU 154, the Yakolev 42, Transaero Boeing 747 and Gazpromavia Boeing 737.

A Manchester airport spokesman said about 10,000 fans have flown into the city.

Up to 100,000 fans from both sides are expected in Manchester for the game.
